Since 1980, Northern Ontario Business (NOB) has been the premier provider of business journalism from around the North, and we’re currently looking to add a full-time reporter to our complement of journalists.

We’re looking for someone who has a natural curiosity about Northern Ontario and its people, who can find and develop interesting stories and news briefs for our monthly print publication and our website.

Based in Sudbury, we report on a variety of industries — mining, forestry, Aboriginal business, transportation, construction, business travel — and profile innovative business leaders and entrepreneurs.

The reporter will be expected to cover an assigned territory and sustain a network of contacts. Some travel will be required.

  • A diploma or degree in journalism is preferred, but experience and a quality portfolio will be considered
  • Superior researching, interviewing, writing and photography skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to source stories and build up a network of contacts in the territory
  • Knowledge of Northern Ontario and its primary industries is considered an asset
  • Good working knowledge of Canadian Press style
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle

To apply, send a cover letter (stating you found this job on Jeff Gaulin's Journalism Job Board), resume and examples of your work to editor Ian Ross at The deadline for applications is April 7.

No phone calls please. Only those being considered for an interview will be contacted.
