Castanet Media
Location: Kelowna, British Columbia

Salary:

Description

Castanet.net is British Columbia's leading online media source with both online print and video news a cornerstone of our current content.  This fall, pending CRTC approval, 103.9 FM "Castanet Radio" will launch expanding the reach of Castanet content to the airwaves and creating a powerful multimedia news organization.

With this evolution, Castanet is seeking a dynamic and experienced News Director to lead our online, video and radio news team into the future.

Based in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia and working from our new state-of-the art facility, this senior management position will lead the news team of four reporters in Kelowna and two in Vernon and Penticton to gather and report live, breaking news that will be distributed across Castanet.net and Castanet Radio.

The successful candidate will eat, breathe and sleep news with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.  Key responsibilities include overall responsibility for the day to day, hands-on operation of the news department including prioritizing breaking news, writing engaging headlines, managing the Castanet headline stack and hourly radio newscasts, editing local copy and wire copy, monitoring the news wire, email, partner sites and competition.

Qualifications

With the addition of radio to the Castanet operation this fall, we are seeking an individual who has prior experience in a radio newsroom but who has also been exposed to online news content management.  Experience with video or television news would also be a strong asset.

If you currently lead a radio or online news team but are looking for an exciting new challenge, this could be the opportunity you've been searching for as we continue to build and evolve one of British Columbia's leading multi-media news organization.
