Inuvik Drum is one of Northern Canada's most storied newspapers, operating north of the Arctic Circle since 1966. Published weekly by Northern News Services, Inuvik Drum is the primary news hub for the Beaufort-Delta region of Canada's Northwest Territories. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a remote location, providing high quality news stories, editorials and photos while meeting deadline. The Inuvik Drum editor is also expected to provide content for Northern News Services' largest publication, News/North, and on our website

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and photography skills while possessing a zest for adventure and some knowledge of the North and Indigenous issues. Northern News Services provides a very competitive compensation package, and will cover your transportation costs to Inuvik and other reasonable related expenses if necessary. InDesign and Photoshop knowledge is definitely a plus.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience reporting for print in community newspapers and writing editorials.

  • Proficiency in news writing and knowledge of Canadian Press guidelines.

  • Photography skills and a decent camera (Northern News Services may purchase a camera for the successful candidate to be paid back in monthly installments).

  • Social media knowledge.

  • A valid driver's licence and smartphone.
