Columbia Valley Pioneer
Location: Invermere, British Columbia
Posted: December 6, 2017
Deadline: January 5, 2018
Are you a journalist craving long hours toiling on a story to make it shine? Do you love tippy chairs combined with great Kicking Horse coffee? Can you capture an award-winning image? Then this job might be for you.
We’re looking for a hard worker, for someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously and can handle criticism but knows they’re good at what they do. We need a journalist with attention to detail and a flare for making connections.
You will be the main photographer in a photo-heavy paper, and are expected to produce high quality photos each week. Your schedule will include evening and weekend work. While we’re sometimes a three-person newsroom, it can drop down to two or even one person if the stars are working against us. So you better be good at writing whatever story is flung your way. We need someone with a strong sports background, especially hockey. Lastly, we need a multi-media reporter who can grow our social media presence while maintaining high quality content for our print edition. The Columbia Valley Pioneer is the East Kootenay’s only free, full-colour, independent newspaper with a circulation of 6,400 and an audited readership of 98.0%. We also produce a minimum of six magazines and special publications.
The Columbia Valley Pioneer is based in Invermere, a popular tourist destination located in the heart of the Columbia Valley between the Purcell and Rocky Mountains. If you love the outdoors then we're a perfect fit! News coverage extends north to include Radium Hot Springs and its surrounding communities, west to include Panorama Mountain Resort and south to include Fairmont Hot Springs and Canal Flats. The successful applicant will be employed by Aberdeen Publishing, which is an independent publisher and an affiliate of Black Press.
