There is a rumour going around that newspapers are down for the count. Not so, as those of us in the rural areas of Canada are still standing; merely leaning on the ropes, catching our breath. We’re still in the fight! The fight to prove or disprove rumours, report the facts and to keep the spotlight on truth. We need your help with one of the most important responsibilities in the world: Keeping people properly informed about what’s happening in their community and region! The Echo-Pioneer, is a regional weekly community newspaper serving High Level and Mackenzie County. The Echo-Pioneer is part of an independently owned and operated newspaper chain with publications located throughout northwest Alberta. Duties of the reporter include, but are not limited to, coverage of local and regional events, politics, sports, schools and general community happenings. The successful applicant will work in an office with six staff, including an editor. The working environment in the office is friendly, professional, respectful and low stress. Among the benefits of the position, each staff member gets one extra week paid holiday during Christmas as a staff bonus. Moving assistance available, within reason. Salary is based on experience... The more you are willing to do for us the more we'll do for you!

Position is available to Canadian residents currently living in Canada. Journalism degree or diploma from a reputable Canadian post-secondary institution is a necessity. Must have own vehicle and possess a valid drivers license. We need someone with sound writing skills, but also the ability to shoot good photographs. Having own digital SLR equipment preferred but not necessary. A MUST requirement: Clear thinking, self-motivated, good natured personality, as well as an ability to report news and events objectively, not allowing personal beliefs or ideology to influence on the job performance. Writing style must be clear, concise and logical, allowing the reader to form their own opinion based on all the facts.
