The Montreal Gazette is looking for an innovative, highly motivated video expert to join our editorial management team. The successful candidate will spearhead all video production in the newsroom and lead, inspire and engage the entire newsroom around video content.

Leading a team of audience engagement specialists and photographers, he or she will be responsible for generating story ideas, video planning, quality control and production goals. The successful candidate will also be responsible for tracking video performance and collaborating with other video leads in the Postmedia network.

He or she will be responsible for managing day-to-day video production that aligns with local content objectives as well as national goals set by the Gazette’s parent company, Postmedia.

The successful candidate will be tapped into online trends and approaches to multimedia content creation, and be able to quickly and effectively lead the creation of videos to drive engagement across our digital platforms.

He or she will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build relationships, collaborate and interact effectively with cross-functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization.

The candidate we are looking for is a strategic thinker who speaks analytics fluently, and is active across social media platforms. This candidate is a team player and self-starter, at ease in a deadline-oriented setting, and accustomed to fast-paced content creation in a 24-hour, seven-day operation. He or she will bring a startup mentality to an established and respected news organization.

• Explore new ways to leverage video content
• Strategize and develop video assets across all platforms
• Assist journalists with the development of story ideas
• Provide guidance, input and suggestions during all phases of video production
• Oversee editing of video content
• Lead video story meetings
• Assume responsibility for storyboarding and producing both news and audience engagement videos
• Daily quality control
• Manage online posting of videos


• 3+ years of experience in digital media, video production; experience with news and information sites an asset • Experience managing teams essential • Knowledge of digital video offerings across the Internet, extensive knowledge of news, culture, video journalism and social media • Experience curating content for specific social platforms • Experience driving engagement with video and other content on social platforms • Ability to identify and adapt to social media trends and algorithmic changes • Proficiency in industry standard software (Final Cut Pro, Photoshop) required • Must be bilingual
