We’re adding a fresh set of hands to Xtra’s growing editorial team. Every serious candidate for associate editor should have a proven track record of strong editorial news judgment, a deft touch for structural editing, and a profound commitment to telling our LGBT community’s stories with accuracy, fairness and depth. The ideal candidate can untangle a web of story threads and help reporters of various experience levels weave them into clear, accessible, compelling coverage that’s relevant to our community.
We are Canada’s queer news source, dedicated to capturing our community in all its unapologetic glories (and shortcomings), celebrating sex positivity, challenging stigma and asking tough questions as often as needed.
On a good week, we’re covering the federal government’s historic apology from the Hill then critiquing its shortcomings for our readers, guiding our freelance reporters as they chase down a variety of leads, assigning multiple stories and investigations while scouting fresh voices for first-person pieces then nurturing each as they take shape, rolling up our sleeves to edit hard news and features and envisioning the best ways to share each piece with our audiences on multiple platforms.
And we have a haunted disco ball that randomly spins above our editorial pod.
If you think you’re the perfect fit for our team, follow the instructions below to apply.
We’d love to meet you.
