Reporting to the AVP Communications, the position requires a highly skilled writer who will be responsible for creating public, institutional and industry-facing communications that support the organization’s corporate communications efforts. The role includes writing speeches/remarks on behalf of the Communications Department, for the office of the ROM’s Director & CEO and the executive leadership team. In addition, the role will support the ROM’s publishing assets as a Contributing Editor, including writing for ROM Magazine and other corporate communications such as the Annual Report and Business Plan. The position will also be responsible for developing and drafting executive-led content for various ROM publishing activities such as book publications.


  • A minimum  of eight years’ experience as a skilled writer in a professional capacity, ideally in the culture or academic sector or a news-focused media environment
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or  related field
  • Substantial experience writing speeches and/or articles and opinion pieces on behalf of senior leadership
  • A strategic and critical thinker with wide-ranging intellectual capabilities and an aptitude for writing exceptional material on a range of topics in an engaging and thoughtful manner and with strong journalistic skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex, technical, scholarly information into clear and succinct ideas and compelling storytelling
  • Demonstrated excellence in crafting strong narrative, messaging and talking points tailored to address individual issues and challenging subject matter
  • Experience working with sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously
  • An aptitude for working independently while also as part of a team and dealing effectively with people at all levels of the organization including the executive leadership and the Director & CEO
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Salary Range : $71,661 - $81,898 * per annum
