Kingston Publications, a division of Postmedia Network Inc., is seeking a seasoned, highly motivated managing editor used to working in a fast-paced magazine publishing environment. You will be responsible for overseeing the creation of our roster of magazines, including planning the editorial lineups, assigning stories and photography, overseeing a team of around 20 freelancers, and directing the design process.
Magazines include Kingston Life, Kingston Life Interiors, the Kingston City Guide, Welcome Back student magazine, and the Relocation Guide. To read past issues, visit kingstonlife.ca. The duration of this full-time, temporary position is 12 months, covering a maternity leave. Position starts in April 2022.
Who you are:
- 2-5 years’ experience as a magazine editor
- Knowledge of or keen interest in Kingston and the surrounding area
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of freelancers
- Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Talent for writing clever headlines with clarity that captures the essence of a story
- Excellent grammar, comprehension and editing skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to resolve conflict and solve problems
- Always meets deadlines
- Proficiency in CP style
- Strong design sense
