Black Press Media is looking for up-and-coming journalists looking to join one of the largest news networks in the country for a summer of fast-paced reporting and hyperlocal community storytelling.

In its second year, the 2023 class will be assisting with coverage across B.C., Alberta, the Yukon and Northwest Territories from mid-May until the end of August.

Successful applicants will be joining the national news team. This is a paid internship program. Those with connections to communities with Black Press Media publications may have an opportunity to join newsrooms in-person. Otherwise, this program operates remotely and on the PST time zone.

Qualifications

Applications are open to journalism students who have completed at least their third year of schooling in an undergraduate program or equivalent. Master’s program candidates are also welcome to apply.

Successful applicants will hold excellent communication skills and an excitement and passion for bettering their storytelling skills, including story development, interviewing, time management and implementing news values.

While advanced knowledge of CP style is not required, basic understanding of grammar and the ability to write clear and concise is essential. Video editing is an asset.
