Description

Seeking general assignment reporter to work for both print and online editions. Some weekend work. Must be able to write and take photos. Combination office and at home work.
  
Turtle Island News, Canada’s National Indigenous newspaper, is seeking an experienced news reporter to cover Indigenous issues not only in our home community but develop news articles on emerging issues. Freelancers will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, verify and analyze newsworthy information
  • Receive assignments or investigate news leads/tips
  • Contact, interview and research sources

Qualifications

  • Proven working experience as a Reporter
  • Portfolio of published articles or newscasts
  • Ability to gather, write and edit news
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, digital editing, web search, databases)
  • Experience an asset, must have own transportation
  • BS degree in journalism or mass communications/experience
  • Able to work evenings or weekends if needed 
  • Freelance writer will be considered
