Description
Turtle Island News, Canada’s National Indigenous newspaper is seeking an experienced news reporter to cover Indigenous issues not only in our home community but develop news articles on emerging issues. The General News Reporter position allows for combination of in office and online. Involves writing for both a print edition and online edition. Responsibilities - Collect, verify and analyze newsworthy information
- Receive assignments or investigate news leads/tips
- Contact, interview and research sources
Qualifications
- Experience an asset.
- Proven working experience as a Reporter an asset
- Portfolio of published articles or newscasts
- Ability to gather, write and edit news
- Computer proficiency: (MS Office, digital editing, web search, databases)
- Experience an asset
- Must have own transportation
- BS degree in journalism or mass communications an asset
- Able to work evenings or weekends if needed
Turtle Island News is a national Indigenous newspaper focusing in on issues affecting First Nations people. Located at the Six Nations of the Grand River just outside Brantford, Ontario. Job involves both in office and work from home ability. Must be able to cover meetings and occassional weekend assignments and have own transportation.
